Each litter is planned with extreme care. The mother (and father if we have him) is fed a high quality kibble with fresh meat, yogurt, fruit and vegetables and other treats throughout their lifetime. We regularly check stools for parasites and will treat the pack if there are any. Our dogs have been parasite free for several years. Our cold northern climate takes care of potential fleas and mosquitoes carrying heartworm. The dogs are regularly groomed and inspected for any problems. We see the occasional ear or eye infection, and rarely hot spots (skin infection) in the spring when the snow is melting.

With few exceptions, our breeding dogs are champions in the show ring. This is a way of having our breeding stock evaluated by judges outside our breeding program. Both structure, and movement, unique basset hound characteristics and, to some extent personality, must meet a certain standard to be recognized as sufficient quality for a championship. We rarely keep males as we have access to some of the best studs available by frozen semen, including some of our own breeding.

It is very important to us that the hounds that we bring into this world are healthy with balanced personalities. We intend that they go to a person or families who are committed to their happiness and well being for their lifetime. We believe that it is a privilege to be owned by a basset hound and the unconditional love that they shower on us is an honor to which we should all strive to be worthy.

This website is set up to share our breeding program with you and to help those of you who are new to the breed to learn about owning a well behaved and healthy basset hound.

We take our responsibilities as a breeders of basset hounds very seriously. Expect to be asked many questions about yourselves and your homes so we can ensure that a particular basset hound is the right choice for you. We follow the ethical standards for breeding described by the Basset Hound Club of Canada
