SALES CONTRACT - breeding
SALES CONTRACT - companion

We usually have one or two litters each year, and the occasional older puppy or young adult for adoption. If you are interested in a puppy or adult , please email us your request. Once we have received this, we will seriously consider your request for a basset and send you more information. This will also secure your placement on our waiting list. Top of the list will be those who have placed a deposit on an anticipated puppy.

We take a limited number of deposits of $100 for a puppy or adult. This is non-refundable unless there is no puppy available in the next litter. View the Sales Contract – Companion for what is included in the adoption fee. For all questionnaires received after February 1, 2009, the cost of a puppy will be $1000.

Our puppies and adults live in our home, not a kennel. We follow guidelines for puppy stimulation found in Another Piece of the Puzzle: Puppy Development (2004) edited by Pat Hastings and Erin Ann Rouse. This will expose our puppies to different kinds of exercises and opportunities for them to develop to their full potential and will stimulate a healthy immune system. Once they are weaned at 4 weeks, they are ready to receive visitors for more socialization. Weaning should be complete by 6-7 weeks of age. Their mom and our other adults will socialize and discipline them until they are 8 weeks old and ready for their new homes.

Our puppies are evaluated at 8 weeks of age for temperament and quality with the help of local experts. The puppies destined for a pet or companion home, can leave after the evaluation, and we will help you with making a good match for your family. We will strongly encourage you to enroll your puppy in a manners class to learn good leadership skills for this particular basset.

Show prospects will stay with us until we are more certain about their quality. At around 10-12 weeks of age, we will evaluate the puppy again, this time focusing on quality of movement. Around 5-6 months of age they can go to their new home unless we decide to keep an exceptional male longer to collect frozen sperm for our breeding program.

All companion puppies are sold on a non-breeding contract. All puppies will be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club at no extra charge. They will be microchipped or tattooed around 7-8 weeks of age. Under the age of 20 weeks, they will come with 6 weeks of health insurance through Pet Plan Insurance (affiliated with the Canadian Kennel Club) at no extra charge.
